Good Shepherd Food Bank – Hunger In Maine
Here is a scary fact: over 14% of Mainers are food insecure, including 1 in 5 children. That means they’re not getting enough nutritious food to thrive. Here’s another scary fact: There’s no good reason for people in Maine to go hungry—there’s plenty of food. The problem has always been the economic and political obstacles that prevent folks from accessing the food they need.
We built this animated video to explain that despite a growing economy, Maine is trailing the nation when it comes to food insecurity. Good Shepherd Food Bank is the largest food bank in Maine, acting almost as the grocery store for pantries and soup kitchens across the state. Their bold goal is to eliminate hunger in Maine, and they know how to do it.
We wanted to pair these stark truths with compelling visuals, marrying live action and animation with the goal of moving people to act. Kristen Maile, GSFB President, walked the find line with a serious tone and tenor that presenting the issue but was still hopeful about the future. Filming at Brick South was a treat, they even let us bring in a scissor lift to slalom around the pillars. Just kidding we didn’t do that. We did go up and down though… A lot.
