Mint Julep – White Hot Heart

Keith Kenniff is a super talented composer who we have been working with for a while. This time, the tables were turned. Usually we have the video and need the music from him. But in this case, he had the music and needed the video from us.

Keith didn’t have a specific vision for what he was looking for. In fact, he wanted us to take full creative control. We engaged our entire team to come up with ideas and ultimately decided to go with an approach that would play with the ideas of everlasting love and time. All set in and around Portland. Our scouting was robust. For the concept to work, we needed the compositions to be just right and for the colors to be perfectly complementary. Oh, and to make things even more interesting, we decided early on that we would shoot it all on Super 16mm. Because why not?!

The production didn’t come without its challenges. We only had a certain amount of film stock; the picture car we had secured for filming was being serviced right up until the very last minute; and our shoot was scheduled for one of the coldest days of the year … but we embraced all of it and had fun. It helped that we had an amazing crew and cast. Everyone was in it together. Despite the single digit temperatures.
